Hotel Marketing Ideas

Whether you run a small independent hotel, guest house or Bed & Breakfast, a few low cost hotel marketing ideas can make all the difference to your bottom line profits.

However good marketing ideas don't grow on trees you know! And unfortunately many great ideas are usually dismissed at committee level without ever having a chance to bring in the customers.

So if you are looking for a great idea for your hotel, where do you start? Well, here's a few suggestions:

  • What's Working Now?
Take a look at what you are ALREADY doing that is having at least some effect and consider ways to tweak or improve the strategy. Quite often, a great idea comes from looking at an OLD idea with a fresh pair of eyes.
  • What Are Your Strengths?
What skills or assets can you draw on? Are you a wizard with a computer or an expert on a local subject? If so, consider creating your own reports or articles to give away that will attract readers to check out your hotel. I'm not talking about blatant marketing pieces, think more about a short guide, newsletter or even Youtube video about attractions in your area.
  • Leverage Your Local Assets
If your hotel is lucky enough to have a famous attraction such as a theater, golf course, amusement park, historic monument or area of natural beauty, let people know about it! Then make sure you are the 'Go-To guy' for that particular venue. All it costs is a little research time.

Examples Of Great Hotel Marketing

The town of Stratford-upon-Avon in England attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to its association with William Shakespeare. The whole town is steeped in history and the local hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, pubs and businesses make the most of the opportunity with theater breaks, trips to famous landmarks and walking tours of the city.

A popular Inn here in my home town puts on re-enactments of events from the English Civil War every year. On October 15, 1651 James Stanley, the 7th Earl of Derby was executed in public for his part in the 1644 Bolton Massacre when 1,500 townsfolk were killed. The landlord of the Inn gains full page coverage in the local newspaper every year for simply staging a short play of the event. You can see for yourself here.
